December 21, 2011

So the last 5 months just totally disappeared. I have next to no recollection of time passing and as far as I'm concerned, it may as well be February from last year. I attribute most of this to being in a bus with Chromeo, as well as a number of airplanes. (I'm happy to report that all my airline status has remained intact through 2013.)

Aside from 55 days in a bus in North America, we made a couple whirlwind trips to the UK and EU, one of which had us at Pukkelpop the day of the stage collapses. There was a moment, while we were setting up, that we thought ours was coming down but fortunately it held together. The one next to us wasn't so lucky. I won't get into the sad details of it, you can read more about it here. Suffice to say it was not something any of us want to go through.

But moving along, the rest of the year went by in a complete and total blur. First the first time in recent memory, I'll get to spend some time at home to see where all my rent money goes, and I only have one show on my schedule in the near future. I plan to become the guy who brings a bag of bread crumbs to the park to feed the birds. It has taken a bit of time for my body to regulate to a single unchanging time zone, but maybe that's a good thing? Who knows, time will tell...

If anything pops up that's worth talking about, you'll see it on my Twitter feed. Look to the right, just a little... yep, there it is. Otherwise, I'm going to go hide under a rock for a while.

July 20, 2011

Just got back from 3 weeks in Europe with Chromeo. It was remarkably uneventful. We flew to every show, the possibility of disaster was maximized, yet everything happened. I'm stunned. I did spend the better part of 3 months working on this run because it was so bizarre, but stunned nonetheless. Home now for a few days, then we go west, then east, then back across the Atlantic, etc, etc... You get the idea. All the dates are up on the tour dates page.

In other news, you may have heard of the surreal main stage collapse at the Ottawa Bluesfest this past weekend. For those of you familiar with festival stages, it's obvious this was a pretty major event and unbelievable that no one died. It hit a little closer to home for me as I used to work as the monitor engineer on that stage a few years ago; it was my regular summer gig before I was really touring full-time. I still have a lot of friends who work at that festival, on that stage and was relieved to hear they were all ok. Some of my touring friends were even there that day, playing that very stage. One of the guys told me he thought everyone on the stage was dead, and it was a tough 15mins before everyone was accounted for. I'm sure the reasons for the collapse will come out eventually, and hopefully it won't happen again, but it really makes you think about where you go to work everyday...

Aside from that, not much else to report. Life in the bubble continues, the Twitter feed to the right will tell you all about it...

So, what to say... It's been a little on the slow side the last month or two, but still maintaining a healthy level of "busy" nonetheless. Along with the random The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger show, and the occasional Chromeo gig, I added a few stops along the road with Drop The Lime, sort of an electro-rockabilly vibe. You have to see it to get it, and it was a good time.

The summer is right around the corner and it's filled with Chromeo on my end. That's a whole lot of electro-funk... We'll be at every festival you can think of all summer long, and then we just keep on going for the rest of the year. Lots of nights in buses and airplanes coming up. Check the tour dates page for the latest. Looking forward to running into as many friends as possible out there, but with the time restraints a handshake will have to suffice in most cases...

I'm not really sure what else to throw out there. The blogging has decreased thanks to the regular twitter updates (to your right), which also feature random photos. Although, I do have to say it's been a little while since I've been somewhere new, so the incentive to take pics is pretty low. I have a couple new stops this summer, but it's going to be such a crazy whirlwind I'm not sure I'll have a chance to show off the surroundings. I've thought about putting up a video page, but that'll have to wait a while I think... Stay tuned for more...

Well, it's been a while. I'm sorry, I've been busy. But it's always good to be busy in my line of work, so I'm not *that* sorry. Nonetheless, it's been nuts.

Since the last update, I've been down to New Zealand and Australia with Chromeo, which had no shortage of drama... I stayed in Sydney for a week afterwards to vacation, but all the relaxation benefits were blown away when I flew back into our North American run. It wasn't too bad until our bus caught fire one night. More on that in the Life On Tour video series...

So the Life On Tour videos are something we started doing to kill time on the road over the last few weeks. It features bus reviews, truck stop reviews, beverage reviews, etc... You get the idea... It's worth checking out for a look at what it's really like, click here to check out the ever-expanding series.

And now it's time for the yearly trek to SxSW. I have a couple shows with Chromeo, and one with Yoko Ono. And in between them I have four days off to immerse myself in the festival. Or stay in my hotel room. Time will tell.

The next couple months are a little slower, finally. You can find me at Coachella in April, but aside from that, I'm laying low. Stay tuned for more....

I wish I could say another year of touring has been successfully completed, but that would be a lie. The bulk is over though. Just finished a month in Europe and the UK with Chromeo, and now we have about 2 weeks off before we head off to New Zealand and Australia.

Aside from that, I've added a few new albums to the Photos section, and I'm updating the blog. It's very patchy, but there's a few new stories anyways...

In the meantime, check out this contribution I made to A-Trak's blog about shows in Serbia this past summer with him and Chromeo. Click here.

November 15, 2010

Been a while. I haven't had a chance to notice actually. Yet again, I've no idea what's happened to the last few months. Complete and total blur. I'm currently sitting in an apartment in London, UK, and I'm not really sure how I got this far.

Since the last update in July, I went around Europe and North America with Chromeo, hit France and Spain with A-Trak and did a few shows in LA and Iceland with Yoko Ono. A few memories stand out, like a crazy bribe-filled border crossing in Serbia, 5 days off in Ibiza and a crazy LA show with Yoko, Lady Gaga, Perry Farrell, RZA, Iggy Pop, etc... The 12 days in London right now aren't hurting.

Anyways, a couple more weeks in Europe with Chromeo, then off (for real!) for 3 weeks, then off to New Zealand, Australia and North America again with Chromeo. Then we'll see...

Working on posting new photos. I know the blog's been hurting, working on that (especially the Serbian border crossing story), but one step at a time...

July 5, 2010

I don't know what happened to the last 2 months of my life. It started with a 4 day drive from NYC to LA for a 5 week Diane Birch tour that went directly into a Chromeo tour which I'm currently on. Everything has been a complete whirlwind and I really haven't had a chance to think much about anything lately... Anyways, we're in Europe now, headed towards the world famous Montreux Jazz Festival, then off to random places like Serbia, then around the US for another 6 weeks. It'll be a good one. Long, but good...

April 28, 2010

New Tour Dates posted. The outline for the next 4 months becomes clearer. I'm now going to sleep for the next 10 days cause it's pretty obvious I won't be sleeping after that...

See below on this page for a video of the Broken Social Scene gig I did on Letterman last week.

April 26, 2010

The last few weeks were ridiculously hectic. Lots of jumping around, back and forth kind of stuff.

March started out with a Swedish singer/songwriter named Erik Hassle. It was nice little gig that fell on my plate at the last minute, and we just did a bunch of promo in NY and LA. The rest of the month was SxSW and WMC with A-Trak. We spent a weekend in France right after, and then April was a giant mess of dates that included We Are Scientists, Broken Social Scene and Hollerado. The last gig of the month is tomorrow night with Sean Lennon's new project, The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger. Is that enough links for you? It was more than enough work for me.

There a few new Photos for your viewing pleasure, but I never caught up on the blog... It seems so 2007 at this point...

Plans for May to be decided this week. To tour or not to tour... that is the question...

March 8, 2010

So, in the last month I've started getting pretty busy again. It started out with some shows with Yoko Ono, which were pretty wild. Not every day people like Eric Clapton, Paul Simon, Sonic Youth and the like just show up to sit in on a few tunes. It was a really amazing experience followed up with a couple trips to the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, first with Chromeo, then again a few days later with The Stills. Unfortunately, I left the games empty handed, no medals this time. Guess I'll have to go back in 4 yrs. And it would help if they created an event for me.

Also working diligently on bringing the blog up to date. I just need one more long flight and we'll be good. Same with pictures.

Tour Dates have been updated for the next month or so. Lots more coming, already booked through September, just can't announce it all yet ;)

January 17, 2010

So, welcome to a new decade. So far I've spent it sitting at home, *not* touring. What a weird feeling. The last show I did was New Year's Eve in LA with Chromeo, and this has now been the longest I've gone in about 10 yrs. without doing a show. That's going to change in a couple days when I head out for a few days with We Are Scientists, some guys I first met when out with The Stills and Kings of Leon a little over a year ago.

Aside from that, a few new dates are up on the Tour Dates page for late-February, when I make my Olympics debut. That's right, I'm an Olympian. Sort of. But not really.

December 15, 2009

It's here. I don't believe it. The end of my touring year has arrived. I type this sitting at 36,000 ft on my final flight home for 2009. Incredible. I now have about 2 weeks before I do another show, which is New Year's with Chromeo down in LA. Technically that show is in 2010, so I'm wasting no time getting the year going. I don't know if I'll ever be home again at this rate...

The last 2+ weeks were spent running around Europe with A-Trak. It was a really good time, had a chance to hook up with friends I don't see very often, but it also brought on epic levels of fatigue and exhaustion. You'd think that flying to every show would be a good thing. Once I recover a bit I'll update the blog with everything from the last 6 weeks.

So tired...

November 7, 2009

So tired... 6 weeks till sleep, counting the minutes....

Just finished a quick run around America with Noah and the Whale. More than half the shows sold out, the guys were great, overall a really good time. Next up is random dates in Canada with The Stills, a couple weeks in Europe with A-Trak and I finish off the year in sunny California with Chromeo. Tour dates have been updated.

I'm going to sleep now. More later...

I've had a few people ask me about a post on my blog from last year regarding the proper use of the rock horn, so, here's the direct link: A Lesson in Rock Horns. Enjoy.
